Travel in Beijing, during Olympic Times
As a native citizen of Beijing, I really take great benefit form www.booktel.com during my trip , however, it’s a shame there isn’t much words talking about this city on the internet, except some referring to travel agencies, so I do hope the passage I wrote down could help those who pay a visit to Beijing.
Accommadition:
As a personal recomandatioon, I think the most convient district is East Ciy District and Chaoyang District.
Tips: No one need to worry about getting lost in Beijing, for the road is straight south and north. Most of the scenic spots are easy to find, for example, the way to Fragrant Mountain is at your hand. Also, traveller read between names, take the East City as an example, it’s meaning is to the east of the city. Tian’an Men Square locates at the centre of the city. It’s a good option to live inside east Thrid Ring where you can find places of entertainment and exotic food, it’s the same situation along the subway staion. But accomaditon nearby scenic spots is not a good idea because it’ s too expansive. To myself, its ok to live in the downtown where you can feel the night life of Beijing. There is no need about your rest because most of the night markets are off aroud 23PM. Xi Dan market is always a favourite place to younger generation due to abundant shoppings and convinetnt transportation. Hou Hai street is famous for its bars and snps with its unique mingled flavour of modern society and traditional Beijing and its night life.
Transportation:
Generally, transportation of Beijing is fast both of the subway and bus. One can find bus to all destination via either direst way or some trasfers. Traffic jam is a headache problem to all, however it’s not the same with the subway instead of the squeezed space. As long as you avoid the rush hours, etc(7:00am to9:30am, 17:00pm to 20:00pm), you can enjoy a happy tour. I’m strongly against taking taxi, especially during the rush hour, by the way, the working spirit of taxi driver is mean.
Food
Beijing is a place you can tast plenty food all over the nation from higher price to cheap. There is web server http://www.fantong.com/quanguo.jsp from where you can not only get infromation and also enjoy bargins. Some suggestion: Quan Ju’de Toast-duck, Dong Lai Sun Hot Spot, Hua Tian Snps, the last one, Lao She Tea House.
Travel:
Travelling is a seasonal activity. Take Summer Palace as an exmple, you can see a great senery during summer and autumn. For Ba Da Ling Great Wall and Si Ma Tai Great Wall, one seciton is enough. In the eatly morning, flag-raising ceremony of the Tian’an Men square is one choose. After that, visiters can go toChairman Mao Zedong Memorial Hall, National exhitbition, The Forbbidon City, and the Jing Shan Mountain Park. If you want to get some imperassion old Beijing culture, China Century Altar, Yuan Ming Yuan Park, Temple of Heaven can be on your list.
Shopping:
The first recommendation is Wang Fu Jing street and Xi Dan Street. The Clothing Market of Animal Zoo have rich and colorful cloth. Pearl Market is a favourite palace to foreigners. For antique-lovers, Da Shi Lan street near Qian Mem valueable palace.
Supermarket:
Carrefour, Chaoshifa, Watsons, all above are good choices.
